OIL ON
CANVAS
"Impressionism
comes naturally to me. Up close the canvas is abstract designs
rich with texture and color, back up and you see another painting.
I try to communicate my reaction to the subject; capture the light,
colors and mood. I'm passionate about painting its never ending
perplexity - there will always be more to learn."
Born in
Abilene, Texas, Diane studied art privately at a young age then
majored in fine art at Oklahoma University and the University
of Tulsa. She continued studying at the Baum Art School in Pennsylvania.
Originally a water colorist, she began to favor oils after attending
plein air workshops in Taos, New Mexico. After founding the Oklahoma
Society of Impressionists, Diane moved to Taos where she won awards
and taught workshops herself. After visiting the Pacific Northwest
she found she was fascinated by the abstract designs made by the
boats in the harbors and their reflections. Moving to Port Townsend,
Washington Diane pursues the challenge of capturing her surroundings
and has become aware of a shift in her work toward expressionism.
